Tape Management
Data tape restores, also known as backup tape restores, have tradiitionaly fallen under the umbrella of “data recovery”. IT-ConServUK has separated out the recovery of damaged tapes from standard data tape restores thus allowing for a more reasonable pricing structure when it comes to tape management.
Experienced in cataloguing and restoring tape data from an extensive array of media formats, we also offer data de-duplication and verification.
As part of the cataloguing service we are able to present a readable, searchable list of all of the files or folders that reside on the tapes prior to proceeding to the restore process, thus preventing unnecessary expense.
Archive Conversion - Tape to Disk
Other than the obvious disadvantages of a tape archive such as media decay and the need to periodically transfer the data to newer media, there is also the issue of convenience. A restore request can be time consuming and resource intensive and require multiple attempts before the request has been serviced. IT-ConServUK can offer a transfer of the entire tape archive to disk. This includes a cataloguing and indexing process that will present an ONLINE, Web based, user searchable, interface with SELF RESTORE functionality.

Often the disposal of the tapes is the least of the requirement. Indexing and Cataloguing can be an important part of this process. If your requirement is simply to be able to provide a searchable list of files contained on the backup media then we are also able to assist. Software developed in-house is able to extract the data from the catalogues and present them in a searchable, readable format. This can then be cross indexed against an inventory of tapes that allows for the selection of the correct media in the event a restore is required.
